Grant Opportunities

 Illinois is committed to assisting early care and education professionals in providing quality education and care for young children, birth through 12 years of age. Based upon available funding, the following grant opportunities are provided by the Illinois Department of Human Services and administered by Child Care Resource and Referral of Midwestern Illinois.

Changes to FY 2017 funding include:

  • Applications will be accepted within TWO funding cycle timelines.  CCR&R is currently accepting applications for activities occurring from January 1, 2017-June 30, 2017. 
  • Individual Professional Development Funds, Training Stipends, and Accreditation Assistance will be funded as reimbursement only upon receipt of expenditure documentation.
  • All completed applications and supporting documents are due no later than June 9, 2017. (License exempt applications are due March 10, 2017).
  • Funding will be awarded to programs based on priority as identified by IDHS.  First time applicant programs are given priority for cohort participation.  For more information, please refer to page 2 of the Quality Improvements Guidelines and Applications.
  • Current enrollment and capacity must be included on Page 5, Section 1C (Child Care Program Information)

Individual Professional Development Funds
January 1, 2017-June 30, 2017
IPDF grants are for individuals. (Although directors, owners and administrators can have employees apply individually and send them in to CCR&R together. Funds can be paid to the program or the individual, whichever is requested on the application.) Individual child care practitioners working to continue their own professional development in early care and education or school age care and/or achieve an early childhood credential may apply for the Individual Professional Development Funds. Funds are provided by the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS).

Quality Improvement Funds
January 1, 2017-June 30, 2017
(Includes ExceleRate™ IL cohorts, ExceleRate™ IL training stipends and accreditation assistance.)
QI Funds are for early care and education programs. If you are an owner, operator, administrator or site director of an early care and education program, such as a child care center or family child care home, you will want to see if these funds are right for your program. QI Funds are designed to assist and support child care programs that are actively working to achieve or maintain an ExceleRate™ Illinois Circle of Quality. Funds are provided by the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS).

The Quality Improvement Funds are divided into three areas: 
1. ExceleRate™ Illinois Cohort – Application Deadline of February 24, 2017
2. ExceleRate™ Illinois Training Stipend – Application Deadline of June 9, 2017
3. Accreditation – Application Deadline of June 9, 2017

 License Exempt Grant Funds
January 1, 2017-June 30, 2017
Quality Improvement Grants are available to License Exempt Family Child Care providers to fund materials and equipment needed for quality improvement as determined by a training and self-assessment checklist.
A License Exempt Family Child Care provider (LEFCC) is defined as a provider who is NOT licensed, who care for NO MORE THAN three (3) children including their own children, unless all of the children are from the same household.
