Whether or not the children are physically abused, they often suffer emotional and psychological trauma from living in homes where there is violence. Even if the children do not observe the violence, statistics indicate that 90% are aware that it is occurring by hearing the violence or experiencing the aftermath of the violent act. Defending Play Boot Camp with Speaker and Author, Denita Dinger!
Registration for this training has been closed. Should a seat become available, last minute registrations filled from the wait list will be required to pay online via Paypal and register via the CCR&R website.

No guts, no glory! This workshop isn’t for the faint of heart! Designed specifically for the early childhood professional who is ready to embrace and defend the value of play. Participants will be put through rigid drills, brainstorming sessions, a “dissecting play” obstacle course and will leave with a toolbox full of research-based artillery that will help them educate parents and others of the power of play. It is recommended that you stretch before attending as a flexible brain is required!

Play speaks for itself, and Denita Dinger speaks enthusiastically for play as well. She is passionate about providing positive, play-centered environments that promote self exploration, imagination and all of the "the important stuff". Independent problem solving, confidence, self control, owning discoveries, cooperating, sharing, asking for what we need, instigating, confidence, leading and listening are what Denita considers the "important stuff". The important stuff builds the base for which all learning can successfully build upon.

Firmly believing that following young children will produce the most amazing learning opportunities, Denita thrives on thinking outside the box, and is quick on her toes to enhance child-led, play-centered learning. She has been the owner and operator of Giggles and Grins, a family child care / preschool program in Sioux Falls, SD since 1998. Denita uses her BS in Eled and Early Childhood Ed. to not only find clever ways for young children to learn through natural discovery and investigative play, but to also "sell" play to parents who are expecting "worksheet learning".

Denita's presentations are heartfelt, humorous, valuable and most importantly, REAL. She doesn't just throw out theory -- she is all about practice. Denita actively lives what she talks about, it is her passion. Monday- Friday she shares her days with ten 2-5 year olds in her program. More often then not, what happened during the past week turns up in Denita's presentations. Sharing fresh, successful learning

moments she has experienced with young children is her pleasure. Her journey from saying: "We play for a bit before we get to the "important stuff". " to now, "Play IS the "important stuff"", will motivate all early childhood professionals. Denita has a special gift of inspiring others to give ownership of discovery to children, to see the value in play and spread the word that play counts!

Denita has been a keynote presenter since 2009 and has co-authored two books with Jeff A. Johnson through Redleaf Press: “Let Them Play: An Early Learning UnCurriculum” and “Let’s Play”.

  • “Living Your Passion” Annual Provider Meeting for CCC staff & FCC Professionals- Closed

Living Your Passion: Tools for Educating and Caring for Children

Your passion for working with young children drives you. Now make that passion work for you with tools from Gateways to Opportunity and Quality Counts. Gain insight on what drives your passion and learn how to gain more education, make more money and offer even a higher quality of care. In this session you will learn more about:

Gateways to Opportunity Scholarship Program is an individualbased scholarship opportunity for practitioners working in Early Care and Education. Gateways supports practitioners with financial support for Early Childhood coursework, degrees and/or credentials as well as the advancement on the Great START Scale.

Great START is a wage supplement program that rewards eligible early care and education practitioners in DCFS licensed child care centers, family or group family child care providers for receiving higher education and for remaining at their current place of employment. The goal of the Great START program is to improve children's developmental and educational outcomes by encouraging increased professional development and the retention of child care practitioners.

Gateways Credentials are awarded and recognized by the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) Bureau of Child Care and Development. Gateways credentials are symbols of professional achievement that can be earned by completing an approved program at an entitled college or university, or by completing a portfolio that documents education and experience.

The Quality Counts: Quality Rating System (QRS) is a voluntary System available to LicenseExempt Family Child Care Providers. The QRS System offers star levels which providers can achieve depending on the type of care they provide. Specific quality criteria must be met to achieve a star level. Once a child care provider has met the required criteria for a level, they receive a QRS certificate.

ExceleRate Illinois: The new quality rating and improvement system that gives you a process for pursuing quality efforts that will help you learn more, do better and improve developmental skills among the children you impact.  ExceleRate Illinois also provides standards, guidelines, resources and supports to help you make sensible changes that lead to better quality outcomes. Most importantly, the program helps you accelerate excellence in early learning and development in the State of Illinois.

Gateways to Opportunity Registry:  is a resource and tool to drive quality and accountability for early care and education, schoolage, and youth development practitioners and programs. Registry Membership provides a system to track professional attainment and completion of training requirements by individual practitioners, from college coursework to communitybased training. For Registry Members, the system will maintain a permanent record of these achievements on a Professional Development Record (PDR).

The Registry also includes a trainer and training approval process that will recognize and validate trainers and trainings that meet the standards and criteria of the Registry. That approval process will strengthen the integrity of the professional development system in Illinois.

  • Director’s Day “The Focus is on YOU” Annual Provider Meeting for CCC Directors & Administrators-

    This training is closed.

CCR&R welcomes you to a Director's Day Training Luncheon as staff from the Illinois Network of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (INCCRRA) join us locally to present

"The Focus is on YOU"  -  A workshop for professional development knowledge and skills.

Child care program quality is only as good as the quality of staff in the program. Program accreditation from NAEYC, NFCCA, and ExceleRate Illinois are all raising the bar for quality care for children.  Each of these program quality accreditations have a significant focus on staff professional development. This workshop can help you be prepared and be successful in helping both you and your staff develop appropriate, achievable and documented professional development plans.

Child care center directors and administrators often struggle with professional development planning for themselves and their staff.  Knowledge and skills needed for professional development planning are frequently not found in college course work or even at professional conferences and other trainings.

The Focus is on YOU helps you untangle the professional development planning maze. This workshop, Registry approved for 3.0 hours, offers research to support the notion that continuing education makes a difference in quality. The Focus is on YOU, also looks at why the private sector spends BILLIONS in training and education each year.

Also covered are some important components of quality professional development planning whether for one’s self or for others.  This workshop reviews the following topics:

    • Emotional Intelligence
    • networking
    • motivation
    • Identifying and understanding common barriers to progress
    • Strategies for working with others
    • Using the Registry Professional Development Record for planning

The Focus is on YOU provides an array of tools and activities to help each attendee assist professional development planning with new confidence and skill.  A self-assessment tool, guide to barriers and a Planning document are all included. Individual and group activities are built into this 3.0 hour session presented locally by INCCRRA staff.

This workshop is Gateways Registry Approved and all attending will be given training credit hours credit on their individual Professional Development Record (PDR).
